About Dentures
Dentures can be used to replace a single tooth or several missing teeth. The denture teeth are usually made of acrylic and the denture base can be of plastic or metal alloys. Dentures can be a long term provision to restore the dentition or can be used as a temporary provision while waiting for a more permanent option such as a bridge or implant.

Metal Dentures
The advantage of this type of dentures is that there is improved retention due to the fact that they fit onto the teeth by means of clasps or rest seats. Another advantage is that they are lighter than acrylic dentures and in many cases the roof of your mouth can be left uncovered.
Plastic (acrylic) Dentures
Acrylic dentures are the most common type of dentures used. They are they cheapest type of denture available and can be used to replace one or several teeth. The colour of the denture teeth can be selected to match that or the existing dentition.
Can I have Private Dentures?
Yes you can! The advantage of having private dentures made is that better materials can be used and more time can be spent making the dentures more individual. For example, you could have the teeth set up with gaps in between the teeth or with teeth at different angles to give them a more natural appearance.
You don't have to be without Teeth
In some cases dentures can be made before hopeless teeth are extracted. Then the dentures can be inserted straight away after the teeth come out. This prevents the patient spending any time without having teeth. Also, ask your dentist about Same Day Teeth.
Possible alterantives to Dentures
There are several alterantives to dentures that you can discuss with you dentist about. Options include, a bridge or dental implants.
